My Story

IMG_9234_finalMy own journey to find optimal health and a fit body has been over 20 years in the making. I went on my first “diet” – by way of Nutrisystem and it’s freeze-dried fake food – when I was just 15 years old. I could go into great detail about the following 20 years after that – but it’s all the same. About every 1 – 2 years, the cycle would go like this: extreme diet, some exercise, lose weight, eat “normal” again, gain weight, stop exercising, UNHAPPY. Repeat with same undesirable result.

Whatever success I did experience was extremely short-lived and I always ended up gaining back more weight. After struggling to get pregnant with my first child in 2001, I started doing lots of research about natural health and nutrition. I started to make small changes as I learned more, and started to gain a better understanding of the importance of health and fitness in our lives.  Getting my body to really change was still a challenge, however. Information is one thing – being able to apply it, is another.

After having my third and final child in 2006, I was ready to get in shape once and for all. By 2007, I had began to run more frequently and did my first 10k race. I ran and ran and ran for the next two years, and lost weight but somehow I was still struggling. Why am I still so flabby everywhere? I’m eating barely anything and exercising so much, why do I still have a round belly? I knew there must be an answer. So I continued to research, make appropriate changes, and attempt to overcome what I had always felt was a losing battle for me.

Long story, short – it took another two years to significantly change my body composition. I adapted to a lifestyle of consistent clean eating and balanced nutrition AND effective, smart exercise practices – including more weight training and less cardio. I no longer feared getting back on the yo-yo cycle of weight gain / loss – I felt and looked great, did not deprive myself, and for once felt at peace with myself. Why would I want to go back?!

With this new lease on life, my passion to help others find the same peace was unleashed. This is why I have pursued education as a health and fitness professional and created Wholesome Fitness – because there is so much mis-information out there that makes it very confusing for those looking for real answers about how to change their bodies. I am on a mission to educate! I never thought I could have the body I do now, at age 40 and after three kids; but there is a way!

I decided to celebrate my accomplishments by competing in my first Figure Body-Building competition. I trained and coached myself through the entire nine month process – and then I did it again for my second show which took place November 2012. This process inspires me to learn more everyday and keeps me on top of the most effective body change techniques.
